Pelican Crossing Blue Jar (Caravan Music) An act likely to benefit from live gig intimacy is Blue Jar. Imagine a smoke-filled Parisian bar in the 1930s, but transported to present-day Belfast! Not as tongue-in-cheek as the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and thankfully not as smug as the The Penguin Café Orchestra, Blue Jar remind me a little of both, playing an eclectic mix combining Django, Grapelli and Eric Satie, with a touch of klezmer (Eastern European, Yiddish, gypsy folk) plus a twist of Jeeves & Wooster fun all wrapped up together. Marvelous! The gentle freneticism of a more cultured past lifts the spirits go on, let a wheezing squeezebox and lithesome viola take you for a spin! - Kinski, Dec 07
