Dance with the Wind – Mary Youngblood (Silver Wave Records)

The concept and the lyrics themselves for Dance with the Wind came to Mary Youngblood at a major transition period in her life whilst experiencing a wild and windy storm surrounding her house during winter 2006. Her personal experience of seeing how the beloved trees nearby were moved by the wind in a way which, to her, resembled joy, caused a spiritual shift in Mary which illuminated how we can all remain flexible as the trees in the face of the onslaughts that our ‘mind currents’ can subject us too.

This CD is the least ‘traditional’ of all the ones reviewed here – and in all probability it will be the most accessible and enjoyable to the majority of Kindred Spirit readers. More mainstream and ‘new age’ in its feel, these touching compositions are played with a special sensitivity, and the hard-earned mother’s wisdom revealed is equally as poignant as the Native American overtones that pervade.
